Exclamation Atrophic Rhinitis

Can anyone from own experience or others tell some more about atrophic rhinitis? Like symptoms and cures and if possible causes.
Thanks.

Re: Atrophic Rhinitis

I do not know what this condition is, so I did a search. A lot of searches came up about this being a disease in swine, but I found a couple referring to humans. All I found is that it is a thinning of the nasal membrane which can cause a runny or stuffy nose, crusty nose and an odor. It can be caused by aging, menopause and infection. Another source said it can be caused by iron or vitamin A deficiency. The treatments appear to be antibiotic ointments and vitamins. Another site said the antibiotic Cipro, removal of the crust and nasal irrigation may help, although there is no known cure. This is probably not very helpful I know, but I thought I'd tell you what I found out. Do a search and see what you can find. Good luck!

Re: Atrophic Rhinitis

Hello

I was diagnosed with Allergic Rhinitis quite a few years back. This condition also runs in my family (maternal side). From my own experience, I can tell you that I have a lot of running and itching alternating with periods of stuffiness and hard, crusty chunks (sometimes green or red in color). Sometimes I get dizzy spells, an unwell feeling, headaches, pressure, sneezing, puffy/watery eyes, itchy-fiberglass-all-over-face feeling, etc.

Allegra is supposed to work wonders for this condition and is what my mother currently takes. My doctor prescribed Allegra for me just yesterday but I hav'nt started on it yet. It is also supposed to be one of the few allergy meds that work on pet-related allergies and being an animal lover, this is a good thing!.

Hope this helps some
