Restoril is used for the relief of insomnia (difficulty in falling asleep, waking up frequently at night, or waking up early in the morning). It belongs to a class of drugs known as benzodiazepines.(isn't that what xanax is?
Sleep problems are usually temporary, requiring treatment for only a short time, usually 1 or 2 days and no more than 2 to 3 weeks. Insomnia that lasts longer than this may be a sign of another medical problem. If you find you need restoril medicine for more than 7 to 10 days, be sure to check with your doctor.

Probably I'll just continue with the xanax, since it is a benzo too. I've noticed the xanax wears off so fast though.

The actual presription is for my husband and later he may need something, so I think I'll get it filled anyway.

I took a xanax at 10 last night slept straight through till 4 am. Then could feel the shakes and sadness set in, but at least I got 6 hours.

I'm gonna take another one hour before his burial.

I've had people tell me to not "numb up" so you can heal and cry. I thought that was stupid, because I've been crying more then ever. All xanax does is keep my heart from popping out of my chest and relaxes me so my muscles don't ache. Some people just don't understand. They think you are being doped up to the zombie state I guess.

I really appreicate all the facts on meds. I don't have the energy to research.

We burial our son today. Its dark, its raining and its Christmas eve. How depressing is that?

God be with you and your family today and in the days ahead. Find strength in Him. Two years ago, we lost our 8 year old nephew to a tragic accident. Spend time with family and know they share your pain, they can never truly know the depth of your pain, but they do feel it. My brother was on anti-depressants since it happened two years ago and he is going to wean off them now. You may need them also. They will not make you a zombie and not feel anything, they will help you manage each day without feeling overwhelmingly sad. Don't be afraid to call someone anytime to talk. You may not feel like it now, but you will. One thing that I found hard was that sometimes I got emotional and tried to hold it in because I didn't want to get my brother, his wife, or their other son upset. But it's okay. People need to show emotion. We all heal together.

I feel so sorry for your loss, my prayers are with you.

You might also suggest an antipsychotic to your doctor, as they can be very helpful in people who are having trouble sleeping due to emotional problems. Although not "classic" sleep medicines, they do two things 1) "Turn off" the mind, and 2) for the first week or two of taking them, they can cause a good amount of drowsiness. This combination may be what you need.
