Re: Middle Of The Night Calf Cramps

I hear ya!!! When I get them, I just massage it until it goes away. The next day it's super duper sore....there's nothing I can do about that one. I usually gedt them when I have been standing or walking the whole day before. I gues I can't give you any answers, or advice. What I can tell you is that you're not weird, it happens to others too. Well, all have a nice day.

wow, I didnt think so many people got them. I get them almost every night. I read that you need more Potassium in your body so they can be controled better. Pretty much you get a spaz out on your leg. I had one so painful that I couldnt move my leg for a day. I get them a lot. maybe because I skatebaord. And please don't think just because I skatebaord I am young. I am 20.

I just want to suggest to you that you may have Restless Leg Syndrome!!
Also people who do extra exercise that involves your legs, usually STRETCH
those muscles past their limit. So when you lay down your calf muscles
try to relax while your sleeping. But when you move your legs they start
to contract. That is their way of telling you they are not ready for more
strain on them. Try one day of not skateboarding, running, walking long
distance's ,anything that causes leg strain. Also eating a banana or
eating some peanut butter before bed helps keep your nighttime
potassium levels up.If that doesn't work try going to the Restless
Leg Syndrome Board. Some things there may sound familiar.

Hope this is of some help

Re: Middle Of The Night Calf Cramps

I get these too!! Usually if I jump out of bed right away and straighten out the leg, and put weight on it it goes away immediately. Although I feel the soreness the next day too. My step mom used to get these too and she was told to take vitamin E. She did start taking that and said as long as she took the vitamin E, she didn't have to "dance around " at night anymore due to the cramps!! I dont get them often enough so I'm not taking that, although watch- I'll get one tonight!!

Re: Middle Of The Night Calf Cramps

Hi,

Ive gotten them several times.I pinpointed mine to walking longer distances and while asleep turning my leg a certain way.

"Charlie Horses"as some call them will bring the strongest of men to tears. You may want to increase your Potassium and drink more fluids as a deficiency in these can cause leg cramps.

When you get them as bad as it hurts try to straighten your leg as much you can.Get up and walk around a bit or try getting in shower and letting warm water trickle down on it.

Also try Quinine..you can buy it OTC at the Pharmacy..You may want to talk to your Doctor about it first to make sure you arent allergic.

Hope this helps
