Re: Severe lower back pain and teeth problems?

It doesn't seem to matter which antibiotic I use. My dentist has given me just plain old Penicillin. This time I'm on Metronidazole since the tooth was so badly infected! It never hurt though, I guess maybe because my back usually hurts so bad I couldn't even feel it. I've also been on Erythromycin in the past few months for chronic Sinus infections and broncitis.

I know I more than likely don't have anything wrong with my heart, I'm 25 and in pretty good shape, also a vegetarian. I don't know how or why they seem to take back pain away, but I know it worked for me. My dr seemed to think it was more of a coincidence though. I have a co-worker who has arthitis and she said the same thing happens with her, her inflammation goes down when she's on antibiotics. So it must reduce inflammtion in some form or another.

Re: Severe lower back pain and teeth problems?

Yes, this is very interesting stuff!

In Sweden there is a study going on about the possibilities that a virus can cause back pain. A microbiologist, an infection disease doctor and a spinal surgeon (Peter Fritzell) are working together with this.

The theory is that some of the very many cases of back pain (where no apperent reason for the pain can be found), the pain acctually comes from infection. The guess is that this infection is very tiny, is causes no other discomfort for the patient other than back pain, and therefor can not be diagnosed very easily.
A first result of the study is planned to come 2006.
I don't have very much more info on this now, but this sure is interesting!

It somehow stoppes the effect of the irritating substances in the nucleus, how I don't know.. I'm not sure doctors know either.

Of course you can't keep on eating penicillin for the pain, but some doctors use it as an indicator to find the reason behind the pain. If Vibra proves effectful you could benefit from Enbrel (called Remicade here) injection as it is antiinflammatory. Lots of sideeffects though so it's only on trial as I understand it.

Maybe it was the antibiotics that cured your pain all along while having dentalproblems, or was it just the fixing of the teeth that did the trick maybe?
Anyway, good you got better!
Hi Thanks for the info. I think it was the fixing of my infected teeth not the antibiotic. The first time it happened after the root canal the pain moved to my knee and then disappeared. It was just unreal and probably wouldn't believe it if someone else described it but it really happened to me. The next time had a filling done and sore back came back after 5 days. Took Pen V and in 5 days my back was totally pain free and has stayed that way now for 5 months. Scared to go back to the dentist but need some crowns put on root canals.

Thanks for sharing this info. Thought this would make a good research project for some Dr. somewhere. I noticed when going through all this in our local paper that someone has researched that there is proof that tooth problems can cause a baby to come prematurely. Surely there could be some connection as well to back pain. Sure hope someone does more research on this. I think our bodies are connected more than we think. Any specialist I have seen said that it must be coincidence - no correlation. At least I am pain free today so something must have happened.

Re: Severe lower back pain and teeth problems?

Hi Xavier
Thanks for responding. Maybe I'm not crazy after all. No one else seems to believe me. i don't even think that antibiotics are even part of this except for maybe there is an infection but moreso a root canal. I started havinc back pain again and now a couple months later found out I need anothe root canal. Had one today so will see if the back pain goes away as well. This time hopefully without Pen. VK. Time will tell. Also I am a person that freezing does not work well on. In fact I was going to have to be put under. Last time had 18 shots of freezing and still had terrible nerve pain all through the dental procedure. Do you also have troubles like this. Just wondering if my nerves are connected strange.
Did you hear that tooth infection has been proven to cause premature births. Some more research is definitely needed on this.
Hope you are doing better now and your back pain is completely gone!
