Actually, I don't think either of us meant that BCPs will cause everyone who takes them to gain weight. Obviously, there will be some women whose weight will not be affected.

I was disagreeing with the claim that "no birth control will make you gain weight." It's quite a different idea.

I just wanted to chime in with my 2 cents. At some points, over a period of 15 years, I took Loestrin, Orthotricycline, and Mircette. (I'm blanking out on the very first pill I was given, but that's a total of about 4 formulations) Now I'll be attempting to try Yasmin. The other formulations, I not only took for birth control, but also to help out with my (what I believe to be hormonal) acne. Each of these BC pills make me break out horribly(more so than even before taking them), and I suffered depression every time because of it. Not only that, but I endured severe migrane headaches while on every formulation. To top THAT off, I continually gained weight every time I went on a pill. And not just 2 or 4 pounds here, but on average 5 pounds EVERY MONTH with no let up. I remember making a remark to the nurse about this and her response was "It's not the pill honey, it's what your putting in your mouth". I was furious, especially since I was to the point that I had been trying to not gain any more weight by eating only very litte and drinking water at that point. Funny how when I went off the BC pill, I lost weight eh? Anyhow, I heard about Yasmin (and I'm sure it's probably propaganda put out by the manufacturer) and it's different hormones that help you maintain your weight, so I'm going to try it. Hopefully I won't really mess up my face either, since I've also gotten my acne pretty much cleared up and under control currently with prescription medication topically and Nifol vitamins.

Re: Mircette

I NEED to be on BC to control PCOS and my ovarian cysts, however they give me the strangest headaches/migranes in one very particular area in the back of my head (about the size of a quarter).

I had hopes that Miracette would not cause me headaches but it still did. I have been on the nuvaring for about 2 months now and I have had less severe headaches but they are still there AND I had an optic migrane last week which was the strangest experience I have ever had.

I would try miracette - it seemed more gentle but in the end it did not work for me

Re: Mircette

I also developed cystic acne while taking mircette. It really did nothing for me, it didnt even cause my cycle to be regular
