Hey guys, new to this board. Nice to find a place to go to share:
I've never seen a dermatologist, but when I went to the see the doctor for the first time about 1 1/2 years ago, he prescribed me a topical cream stievamycin, which has a skin exfoliant, and also erythromycin. It dried my skin like mad and it peeled all day, it was embarassing, but I stuck with it and my parents noticed that my skin had improved a lot. Then, I got tired of that and went to minocycline, about a year ago. It kept new formations at bay and the old ones slowly slowly went away, and then my doctor decided in about September to keep me off minocycline once my prescription ran out. A week after I had ran out, my skin broke out so badly that I immediately ran to get a re-prescription. I still got breakouts while usin it, so I think I may have developed an immunity to the minocycline. I finished off my minocycline supply and in the meanwhile I began applying benzoyl peroxide 5%, and at this point this is all I am doing, twice a day, and it seems to be preventing any new breakouts. The downside, it keeps my skin really dry, flaky, and red. If I apply it around my eyes, they start to become baggy so I have to avoid applying it in certain spots.
To sum up:
What has worked
Minocycline (temporarily until resistance set in)
Stievamycin
Benzoyl peroxide
What hasn't worked
Any light OTC products like Oxy, noxzema, whatever, with salicylic acid as the main ingredient.
I've noticed everyone has been praising vitamin B-5, i'll try that and let you know how it works.
