Re: How many side effects is one expected to suffer in silence?

Hi Zuzu,
Iam much better but still notsatisfied with the medication. My cough is still there but improving daily. I no longer have the terrible fatique in the afternoon. However on Adalat retard 10 I am still constipated; have a tingling face, muscle cramps -although they are not too bad and the sleep disturbances are worse than ever. I wake every hour if I dont take Zopiclone; twice a night with 7.5 mg of the drug; and 2-3 times a night and stay awake from 6.am with 1/2 a tablet.I think I will have to try something else when I see the dotor in a fortnight,

Re: How many side effects is one expected to suffer in silence?

en08,

Did you get the calcium channel blocker symptom that I hated worst?

After two teeks on Norvasc (the most EXPENSIVE of the bunch at a buck or two a pill), I had to stop because they caused INSTANTANEOUS mood swings: calm for hours and then flying into a 5 minute rage over a late train or a dropped glass, then peacefulness for an hour, then hourlong periods of manic amphetaminelike activity...I've never seen anything quite like this (I'm normally fairly "laid back" ).

Two days after stopping, back to normal.....NEVER AGAIN!

Maybe it's peculiar to Norvasc (amlopidine) but my guess is that the Adalat (nifedipine) might cause it also.....

Oh yeah, ANOREXIA...but I'm not complaining , but the damn atenolol I'm taking STOPS the weight loss....how's THAT combo for an awful pair!!! LOLOL

I finally DID let go of the weight in one fell swoop after stopping the Norvasc which I means I probably dumped the EDEMA water that channel blockers cause- of course counteracting the effect of the thiazide I'm on.

I PROMISE, I'm NOT making any of this UP...I'm not that imaginative!!!!

So it's ONLY atenolol and thiazide now, so I MERELY have insomnia (I get that idiosyncratically with beta blockers) and erectile disfunction: 2 side-effects are better than 16!

ps....NONE of these channel blockers lowers systolic BP more than 10 points and diastolic much less!

Re: How many side effects is one expected to suffer in silence?

Hi Zip2play,

Ihave not as yet had any mood changes but it took me a few months to get depressed with bendrfluazide! I can see the sleep disturbances making me very frustrated. Less than 2 weeks before I see the doctor so I can eke out the sleeping pills! Ive read that nifedipine doubles the risk of breast cancer so as my sister developed it last year I'm all for trying something else. When you mention anorexia do you mean that you lost your appetite? I have managed to lose 12 lbs in weight without ever feeling hungry since I started Adalat retard 10. If this is due to the tablets I'd better stay on them another couple of months to lose some more weight,
