Re: lab results?
Hello Bruce,
Yes I eat red meat at least 3-5 times a week. I noticed the total iron, satu cal (whatever that is) were low and that the IBC and Folate were low normal. I dont know what half of these things are but I didn't like what the Dr. had to say, so I thought I wouls seek info here, from people who have been here and done this. Thanks again.

If you have an autoimmune disease, this may interfere in your ability to make the intrinsic factor that is a chemical that a person needs in order to use the folate and B-12 that they get from food. For that matter even vitamin supplements taken in pill form do not work as well or at all. One sometimes needs the B-12 shots for the rest of their lives. However, your natural stores of b-12 still show some left even if it is not enough. If you have had an intestinal illness you may have recently acquired this condition. If you have been born with the autoimmune condition, then you may have lived on the edge all your life and are just now beginning to see the side effects of it.These cases do not resolve by eating more meat or more b-12 nutrition usually. But, as long as you get the supplements or the shots you should be ok.

Re: lab results?
Marimac,
I Was Hospitalized For A Kidney Infection Not Long Ago. The Internest Asked Me About Taking The B-12 And I Told Him What The Dr Said And The Internest Said That I Should Be Taking The Shots. When I Told My Pcp This He Said That I Did Not Need The Shots That I Only Needed To Take The Pills For A Month And That Would Take Care Of The Problem.
I Have Many Problems That Are Ongoing, That My Endo Said Are Not From My Hypo. Something Is Going On And I Am Trying To Pinpoint It Before It Gets Any Worse. I Cannot Stand The Cold, Or The Heat For That Matter, I Still Have Horrific Fatigue, Tired, Tired, Tired, Feels As If I Have A Pinched Nerve In My Lower Back, My Hip Goes On Vacation Without Any Notice Or Without At Least Taking Me(lol), Short Term Memory Loss And Others That I Am Sure That I Am Forgetting About. Any Help?

Re: lab results?
Do you feel exhausted and wonder why? Or why do you think you are anemic? What is involved, anyone, in getting the Retic ratio? I've heard that sometimes the RBC can look at least borderline normal (Not the case here, anyway) but that the Retic ratio will let you know whether or not there are enough MATURE red blood cells. More the kind of thing that painters and oil cleanup workers, dry cleaners & those who clean & work with degreasers, in general, need to be concerned with: a chemical called 2-butoxyethanol or ethylene glycol ether.
These chemicals are very harmful, but it hasn't been noticed by too many people. OSHA did look into the harm of 46,000 auto workers exposed to it - last year. They are not only solvents (surfactants) but also pesticides and poisons. EPA has tested 2-butoxyethanol and diethylene glycol monobutyl ether for endocrine disruption. So if you are having symptoms of 'gulf war syndrome' with the memory problems; and also the endocrine disruption (abnormal readings for thyroid, blood sugar, blood pressure, reproductive effects) this chemical could have something to do with that. Do you rememer a time when your eyes were burning, your urine turned dark and you felt a horrible exhaustion that seemed to stay with you? Check more in depth stuff in your blood. The basics will look OK. By the way, you can be exposed to this solvent 'second hand' Someone primarily harmed by it, can pass it on to you, if you are close to their breath, skin, etc.

Have you ever seen a neurologist? I have parkinsons and have severe short term memory loss.
Also, i know an MD who rarely eats meat, and he takes B12 shots.
