Re: Migraine med results?

He told me to take 20mg twice a day but I am taking it three times a day. I've tried Amerge and it just doesn't work for me. I am also using Imitrex 100mg and it seems to help for about 24 hours. I just started the Inderal on Sunday though.

Re: Migraine med results?

I would give the Inderal at least a couple of months, and most likely your doc will increase the dose, especially since you are on a much lower dosage. My doc said that many do well on 80-120mg. When you go on a preventative med, it always takes a while before you know if it works. Its so horrible to have to wait! BUt what else is there to do?
Have you tried Zomig? I usually use that (I'm just out of it right now), it seems stronger than amerge. I switch between Zomig and Amerge. I only use the amerge b/c it has less side effects for me. Keep trying different meds for abortive type, you should find one that works!

Re: Migraine med results?

Angelkitty, I have tried various perscription meds and none have helped very much. The thing that bothers me most is that many of the side effects from the meds are the same as the migraine symptoms. Go figure! Anyway, what I have been trying lately which has worked so far every time is this combination:
Two Aleve
One Aspirin
One Coke (I think the caffeine helps)
One dose of dimetapp (I think the antihistamine prevents the nausea)
I don't know if you get visual warnings or not, but I do and have found that I have to take all of this as soon as the symptoms begin or it doesn't work at all because I can't keep anything down.
Good luck! I feel you pain and misery!

Try Voltarin Rapid it may help ......... it's actually for high blood pressuse but helps talk away the pounding in your head ( makes the blood vessiles smaller or something .....all i care is that it works ..plus its dirt cheap and has no side effects). It's something like $9 for 90 .And you don't take it daily ,just when you feel the migraine coming on .
