Question Post Traumatic Arthritis

Hi... I'm new.. 43 years old and was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Arthritis after crushing my ankle 6 yrs ago. My prognosis is eventual ankle bone fusion.
I need to talk to someone who is going through the same thing regarding an ankle and/or who has had bone fusion already.
I wear an ankle brace and take Vioxx when I feel major pain. I try to avoid meds as often as possible because in the past while taking Relafen, it caused problems with my liver blood levels. I'll use a cane to get around if my ankle hurts to the point of being unable to walk.

I'm just wondering if there's anyone who has this same condition ... need to know what I have to look forward to regarding bone fusion... pain, lack of pain, mobility.. improved or not.. Anyone? Thanks!

Hi there. I realize that you posted this message a while ago, but I am interested in your injury and specifically your recovery.
I am 25 and my husband is 26. August 8,2001, was my first day on the job and I was four months pregnant. After work my husbands co-worker called me from an emergency room two hours away. My husband had been at a job and was leaning 1,000 lb. of sheet rock that was against a wall. He wanted to get a view of the wall for some work he needed to do on it. The sheet rock fell on him leaving him on the floor with his ankle sideways and under the sheet rock.
This brings me to today, two years later with questions about what is in store for Me and more importantly my husband. I have been attempting to research things like post traumatic arthritis, foot fusion, ankle fusion, and medication treatment options. It would be nice to find someone who has had a similar injury instead of talking with doctors who seem to have only two options redily available: fusion or amputation.
If you are comfortable and interested in discussing
your experiences with myself / my husband please reply.
Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Melyssa

I just found this site. I'm wondering if i have arthitis. I had a lumbar fusion 6 months ago and now have developed severe pain in my fingers, mostly the middle joints. They are very stiff and painful. Have you heard of anyone coming down with the Dx of arthritis after surgery? Any help wold be greatly appriciated

Chris RN,

I had a cervical fusion four weeks ago and have developed identical symptoms. When I get my act together, I'm going to see my family doctor. Hope your back is better.

Hi. Sorry to hear of the accident. I fell in Aug of 1997 and shattered my heel (calcaneous fracture). Crushed every bone in my heel and they all were shoved to the outside of my heel. A steel plate and 12 screws were used to put me together again. After a few years, I started having heel pain and went through cortisone shots..worked great for a while. The pain became so unbearable and Celebrex or nothing would work. My surgeon did a sub-talar fusion. I no longer have side to side mobility of my foot but I still have front to back mobility. I had the surgery a year ago and suffer absolutely no pain. Wish I had done it earlier. Good luck
