Hi Lori, I also have very little if any cartilage left between the bones. I think today is the first day I have gone without crutches so that is a step in the right direction. P.T., well the second day I was out hoping on crutches trying to take care of the hounds in the kennels hosing out the 6 runs. I have been doing this since I had the surgery and walking around on crutches in the house but then get off of it either laying on the bed or in front of this computer. What you had done sounds like a knee cap replacement almost. I actually wonder if I will walk almost normal again. I honestly wish I could show dogs again but jogging around a ring might not work anymore. Of coarse dropping the weight will be a big plus but right now my PT is just walking and doing the dog chores and house chores. I better be able to go back to work too soon which is on my feet 90% of the time. I do have a health rider which helps bend the knee without putting any shock to it. You know whith all the new technology I would think that there should be some kind of implant to sub as the lost cartilage. I know someone who is going thru an experimental thing trying to grow new cartilage in the knee. That will be interesting if that works. I am on day 12 and I can tolerate the pain except when I sit for a while I get stiff in the knee. So time to get up and moving. I will keep you all posted on this ole knee. The Dr. said I have the knee of a 65 year old and I am 45. Damn sometimes i feel like 65.

is knee cap replacement o.k.
I chondromalacia patella in both knees, severely since 1995. Have had 3 ops 1 clean out arthroscopy, 2 Steadman proceedures (fracures on back of knee cap to promote regrowth) All did not make me better, but did not make me worse. Continue to get 24 pain dependant on what i do, and am waiting for knee cap replacements.
Anyone that's had them, particularly both knees please tell me whether you think it's it's worth it. Are there other options?

I had arthroscopy done on my knee this past February, and it never has been totally right. It took a LONG time to heal from it, probably about a month. It recently started hurting just as bad as it did before the surgery...my orthopedic surgeon wrote it off as being a touch of arthritis, and prescribed Relafen. Didn't do a bit of good, and the pain was becoming unbearable. He then prescribed Bextra, which has been a Godsend. Only problem is, my insurance won't cover it...and it is REALLY expensive. I hope you don't have the same experience I am having.

Hi: I had arthroscopic knee surgery 1 1/2 yrs. ago. My kneecap alignment is better, but the pain is the same. My Dr. also told me that I have arthritis in there. If I had known that before surgery, I wouldn't have bothered to have the surgery. I take Bextra too. It usually helps, but there are still times when my knee stiffens up and I have to wait a few minutes til I can bend it again in order to walk.

I had the surgery in 1985, I can still predict the rain with my knee.
