Re: Who has done hospital detox successfully?

It's late and I scammed ambien from a doc I saw today, so I"ll be nodding off soon, but thank you, thank you for your input. Got much of the same input from people at my other bar meeting tonight. There are still the old school guys who roll their eyes at the thought of doing detox with a catapres patch, ambien and bentyl, but there are also those who are all for it and even a guy who said he was glad he had tapered down before his hospitalization because it made the detox much quicker. I am thinking that might be how I end up doing it. How low can you go?? and then go in to finish it up. No, I won't let them throw me into what they call a "shake and bake". But if it can be done in a week or less, I may be willing to do it. I still know I have a long way to go but I am seeking nondrug treatment for my pain, I have an appointment with a shrink on Thursday, I am going to meetings and I do not have to chew up 50 milligrams of hydrocodone in the morning before I can function. I just take 2 in the a.m. now.

Well tomorrow is the big trip to an aa meeting with my fil and his buddy so we'll see how that goes. They want me to just stop and now, basically. Which is smart. But I need to make arrangements with the kids, and my little one still nurses a little and there are a lot things to iron out. Only people I would trust with the kids are my dad and his wife, so they would have to fly out and even that would be complicated because my dad is allergic to cats and would have to stay evenings in a hotel (we have friends who own a b&b, so that part wouldn't be too bad)

Anyway, kinda, I was lonely without you and yinksy glad you're back to tell me the facts of life.

Re: Who has done hospital detox successfully?

Rosie....Good morning...I just wanted to chime in and say that when i quit 24 days ago...some AA friends of mine interviened (sp.?)...it was kinda a situation like yours, they dragged me to a meeting, in full w/d, and then they pushed and pushed for me to go to the ER and be admitted. Once we got there, they refused to keep me, the ER doctor gave me some bentyl, i couldn't get any clonidine because my blood pressure was already on the low side, and they gave me info on a 12 step program thru the hospital and sent me on my way. My point is...those hard-core AA people really push and push to go to treatment, go to treatment....i was ready to quit, but not to leave my children, but at that split second when everything came crashing down, i would've been admitted or have done anything just to get off of those pills. Don't let anyone push you into detox, you do what you think is right. It DOES seem like you are having a hard time w/tapering.
I really don't see why you don't find a good addictionologist and tell him or her your situation and see if you can do this at home. Grab some good books and movies, some fluffy pillows and blankets and get some meds to make you more comfortable and ride the storm out for a couple of days. It really isn't as bad as your mind is making it out to be...it will be one week of feeling crabby and sick...you CAN do this, if i did it, anyone here CAN!!!! Please remember i have gotten sober under the most undesirable conditions and still made it!!!! I am routing for ya Rosie. Whatever you decide, make sure it is what YOU want.
I hope you have a good day, and grab that immodium today instead of the pain pills...
I wish you the best of luck and i will help in any way i can....
luv,
LISA

Re: Who has done hospital detox successfully?

Rosie-
Did you say you are down to 2 vikes a day??If so-from my own experience i think you can do this at home-but-im not you-and ive c/t many x at home and broke down. And i have done the most painful/seemingly near death detox at home and made it thru, too.
I guess what im trying to say-physically i don't think it will be so horrible-its the mental part..and whats nice doing in-patient is that you get your comfort meds plus therapy/meetings etc.
Don't fear in-patient..there are great programs out there-even state programs(i was never afforded the luxury of a private hospital)..and it was a good experience-and i did 5 of them..
doing in patient doesn't guarantee sobriety-but it gives you a good jump start-and you are so close..that you probably could take full advantage of the extras in patient offers..counseling,etc..and really use that time to get as much help as possible.
Good luck-and you are really making giant steps..awesome..

Re: Who has done hospital detox successfully?

I was taking 20 lortab 10s per day and I've don't it cold turkey at home taking care of 3 kids. You can do it, just try to get the patch or clonodine. I really don't think you need to go to the hospital. Why do you think you need to or don't need to? I do agree that it's time for something to happen... it's time for you to get off of these pills. You can do it, Rosie!
