Exclamation Combivent warning

A lot of people taking Atrovent/Combivent are not aware that this medication should not be taken if you have a peanut allergy. My doctor never mentioned this to me and was not aware of it when I questioned him about it. This warning can be found in the tiny print on the Patient Information Product Literature that comes inside the box when you purchase your inhalers. Apparently the same ingredient that is in peanuts that causes an allergic reation, is used in this medication.

Choder: I read that fine print and told the prescribing physician. His office asked me to fax it to him, so I did. They were quite surprised and called the manufacturer. I had quit using it because I am allergic to peanuts. The doc said that they are covering their posterior parts because soy leichetin is not the same as peanuts. Because Intal is no longer manufactured, I went back to Combivent and I'm not having any problems. My pulmonologist is also a professor at a major medical teaching hospital in San Francisco, and I trust him.

I think it again depends on the sensitivity of the person and whether or not you're willing to take a chance.

That's right up there with printing on cold medications that "you shouldn't take this if you have (long list of chronic conditions)," because some people will take the OTC drugs instead of their prescribed drugs.
