Post Can Asthma Medicine

I'm 40 years old and have adult onset asthma(for about 6 years now). I also have alot of sinus problems that come with it. But recently(within the last two months or so) my doctor thought that some of my problem was due to year round hayfever. So she took me off Accolate and On Singulair. I developed a rash after three days, so doctor put me back on Accolate(she raised my dose from once a day to twice a day.) My doctor and I discussed lowering the the dosage. Well since switching back to my old medicine I have been diagnosed. with gallstones.

On the Sunday before labor day I found myself in the ER. I haven't had one symptom of gallstones(I only had a sharp pain in my abdomen(sp). Since then no symptoms. Can astma medicines bring on the symtoms on Gallstones?(I know I have callstones but I think their silent. A week or so before the pain I had several bouts of hear burn. I have a doctor's appointment this Friday. I would just like some advice....

Cool

Hi Susie
Sorry to hear about your gallstones, Sounds really painful I haven't done any research so could be wrong here but I've never heard of asthma drugs causing gall bladder problems. I had always thought gallstones were mainly made up of cholesterol & were caused by a person's diet.

Don't know if it's just a saying in the UK but they always used to say that the prime candidates for gall stones were 'Female, Fair, Fat & Forty.' I think it's more common in woman than men so my guess is that it wasn't caused by your asthma drugs, it was probably going to happen anyway. Best to ask that doctor you're going to see.

Since I hit 40 I've had all sorts of problems ranging from cancer to carpal tunnel syndrome & lots of other stuff in between. I've stopped looking for the reasons & put it down to getting older. Hope you get the problem sorted out & are back to good health soon.

Lidia
