Lung/Brain

HI
I know someone who recently was diagnosed with Lung cancer, that spread to the brain. She is in her mid 60's. She has been going through Radiation and is done with it for a while, i guess. I am kind of close to the family, and alot of them are in denial. I dont know what to say, or how to talk and be there for them, I have lost family members due to cancer, and i never got the chance to let them know how much i loved them or anyother things i wanted to say, before they died, and i regret that so much , i do not want to see them going thorugh this. I know people deal with things in certain ways, but also this FAMILY NEVER EVER lost anyone they were close to, they did not know their grandmothers/grandfathers ETC.. I just want to be there and do what i can for them, and i dont know how. I dont know what to say. Another question i have is, (I think the cancer is a stage 4)She goes this week to visit her cancer specialist. I want to know the staging and what can be expected .. Thanks VERY much!

Well, since she has mets to her brain, it by definition means that she has stage IV lung cancer (as you wrote), and treatment at this point is not curative. The treatment they'll offer her is palliative (i.e. for symptomatic relief.)

Re: Lung/Brain

My sister age 45 was diagnosed in January with Stage IV - it has spread to her brain, heart and ovaries - she is done with radiation and is taking Iressa they have only given her 6 months to live and were almost at 2 already. She is very energetic and in good physical shape so she has that going for her but she has a lot of headaches. She is trying to enjoy what time she has left but I worry about what will happen when she gets bad because right now she is doing so good. Hope your friend is doing OK keep me updated if you don't mind.

Re: Lung/Brain

Hello,
My dad is in the same situation. Primary source is the lung and has metastised to the brain. First let us not loose hope! I know the doctors say he has 3-6 months.

Has any of you looked into other options, like clinical trails? How about accupunture or holistic or homeopathic medicine? Anyone try these? I know I'll have my dad try this.

Joseph
