Question elidel use 30lb 3 year old

My 30lb 3 year old son has eczema that has recently gone from mild to moderate to moderate to severe. I have been trying every lotion I ca think of to help it. I hate to medicate him. Nothing is helping. So I have given in and started using eleidel 2x dauly starting yesterday. Does anybody have any experience with this rx. Also he does not drink mild only soy but he does eat cheese occasionally, I try to use the mildest soap, detergent etc. that I can find. Please let me know

Re: elidel use 30lb 3 year old

My 21 month old is going through the same things to an extreme. We have used Elidel, Elecon, Dermatop, and steroid creams. Currently he is on a steroid ointment called Triamcinolone and an anti anxiety medication called Atarax. I bathe him as infrequently as possible and use oatmeal baths.

We are now looking into sensory issues for his constant scratching since he also scratches on other people when they hold him. He is also going in for allergy testing.

The best thing we have done so far is to go fragrance and dye free for everything. We take it day by day around here as one day it looks like it is getting better only to turn around and it looks really bad. Good luck to you

Re: elidel use 30lb 3 year old

A medical and personal opinion (I had moderate to secere eczema for years) - do not use drugs. They only worsen the problem in the long run. Lotions are ok to help relieve the dryness and itch but will only bandaid the problem, as it stems from the inside. If you do use lotion, make sure it is fragrance free and preferably natural - I like 100% jojoba oil. The only way I have found to actually cure this problem is to take either hempseed oil or flaxseed oil internally. 1 tablespoon twice a day. Do not use the capsules- get the pure oil online or in a healthfood store. It is more concentrated. It tastes rather yucky but put it in a bit of juice and have him swallow quickly, or mix it in yogurt. I prefer hempseed to flaxseed, but either will help. This is also great for the digestive system and health in general - you should notice faster growing hair and nails with use (about a month). As for the ezcema, mine is completely gone but does come back if I stop this treatment. Do a little research online if you like, but certainly try this treatment.
HTH!

Re: elidel use 30lb 3 year old

My daughter and my son have excema, my daughter has it badly, this helps in severe outbreaks: give a warm shower or bath, no soap, no shampoo, just water, take them out, pat dry, load them up with lots of cream, wether it be medicated cream or lotion, then take a pair of flannelette pajamas, soak them in warm water, ring them out, put on the wet pajamas first, then a pair of dry flannelette pajamas over top, this helps to keep the moisture in. I learned this while my daughter was in hospital with a severe rash and her excema was breaking out badly, this really helped, but you must do it for a few nights in a row for it to work. Also put the lotion on in between times, about three times a day. Good luck.
