Re: Won Over By Spiro!

Spiro is short for spironolactone. It's an older medicine originally prescribed for high blood pressure. It is also known as aldactone. At some point, it was discovered that the medicine also cleared up acne, because it has anti-androgenic effects. It's especially great for women who have excessive hair growth in unusual places, along with acne, called hirutism. I'm surprised that some of you are having difficulty getting your physician to prescribe it. As I mentioned in a previous post, I have minor side effects such as mild headache and fatique. The medication also works as a diuretic, which some hypertension medications were designed to do. The diruetic effect is also helpful, if you suffer from bloating.......Believe it or not, I got my RX from a Nurse Practitioner at my family practice clinic. She just had to get a doctor to sign the RX. If individuals are having difficulty getting an RX, I would simply go to another physician.....It's a shame that some doctors won't prescribe SPIRO to individuals dealing with the devastating effects of acne. Maybe they are afraid they won't have any patients in need of treatment anymore, if they prescribe it, because of the high cure rates! Check on a search engine for SPIRONOLACTONE, and read about this med. Maybe print it out, and take it with you to the doctor. That's what I did.

Re: Won Over By Spiro!

ok spiro is also a drug used by transexuals when combined with estrogen will give you breast, less body hair, better hair on your head, perspire less, think about sex less but once your body is done growing it wont change your bone structure.you will also have softer dryer skin.but if your body is still growing you might stay boyish like and if you under 20 and combine it with estrogen you be pretty girl-like looking.but this is like 100-600 mgs a day of spiro and 5 to 7 mgs of premerin.the above information was for guys.girls dont want male things like excessive body hair so spiro works great for controlling body hair and acne.testosterone causes body hair and facial hair in both sexes.testosterone causes acne in both sexes.guys just produce more of it than girls.guys can use spiro but it would be best to start at 100 mgs a day .then when your face has cleared up drop down to 50 or 25 mgs a day.you face will probably start breaking out again but thats good because it means you still can produce testosterone and you wont be sterile.at 50 to 25 mgs of spiro a day you probably can control your breakouts with topicals because your face wouldnt be as oily as it would be if you went off it entirely.plus you should have blood test every 3 months and be under the supervision of a doctor.spiro took the wrong way could get you very sick.

so what's up with that??? where the heck is everyone going to that i'm not??? it sounds like you all didn't have to run to 4 docs to get it either...very frustrating...are your doctors board certified???what do they all have in common...i know my derm is good...great school, board certification, she's just reluctant to try anything like spiro

Re: Won Over By Spiro!

how effective is it in treating thinning hair/hairloss? I'm dealing with both acne and hairloss at the moment and this would be absolutley amazing if Spiro could help take care of both problems at once!
