Question Re: Update - Having a really hard time

I read your message with great interest! Mainly becuase I myself have been questioning the idea of having some type of diabetes!I have brought this up many times with Drs but to no avail! I battle HBP have for years, meds play havic with me and I know that certain ones can mask blood sugar sysmptoms!
I get the terrible burning feet; sides and tops of feet will get red colored!
I also notice it is more predominate after eating certain foods, (starches, sugars ect?) I go thru weak periods in the am, was blaming it on meds I take , BP drops .the diastolic more so than the first pressure.I cannot navigate when feeling weak and nauseous!I have questioned if this is what diabetics experience with an insulan reaction.(I have had gall bladder removed, years ago so digestive process gives me problems)
Hopefully by now you arer getting better answers ect.
PS! noticing your name made me curiouse enough to ask if you know dimassimos in williamsport?akjoha

Re: Update - Having a really hard time

akjoha, I really don't have many answers, but I am confident in saying that when your blood sugars are not stable it can make you feel awful.

I have several theories about what I have experienced in the past month, but I think I wil never know for sure. I do believe it's possible that I had some sort of viral thing and in combination with all my meds and body chemistry changes my body just reached its breaking point. Between my Thyroid, diabetes, diet and excercise, my body chemistry was going through some dramatic changes all at once.

I think there is also a possibility that I have been experiencing reactions to all the meds I have been on. The docs say that its unlikely, but I have always been somewhat sensative/allergic to a variety of things so it really would not suprise me.

As for my feet - that is a fairly new symptom - it started when I began the blood pressure meds (norvasc), but I have been off that for 2 weeks and the symptom persists. A coincidence? who knows. The symptom is strange - like my feet are in a tub of really hot water. But if I touch my feet they do not feel hot. They do appear red on the soles but otherwise appear normal.
My question is if this were neuropathy would it be effected by meals?

Your question about diabetes - typically a diagnosis is made based on blood sugar levels - what kinds of tests have you had? There must be a reason why the doctors don't think you are diabetic. There are many other illnesses and conditions that wreak havok on your blood sugar - thyroid, adrenal disorders, allergies, etc. You may want to see an endocrinologist. You also mention that you are on a lot of meds - they could definately be effecting your health - not only side effects but they can alter your body chemistry in many ways - not sure what you are on, but you should look up all your meds online and learn more about them.

Where is Williamsport?

Re: Update - Having a really hard time

The burning feet sound like Peripheral Neuropathy, which is caused by your diabetes. I have that, but they only hurt after a BIG meal now. It could be that your nerves are regenerating, since your bg's are coming down, and that hurts, too.

Yes, diabetics have a harder time getting over many illnesses, so that may be one of your problems, if it was viral.

Blessings,
Ramona

Re: Update - Having a really hard time

I thought I read that the peripheral neuropathy can temporarily worsen as you gain control of your blood glucose. Also, in your message you state that the nerves might be "regenerating." Is this a good thing? Does this mean my symptoms are likely temporary? Can you recover from peripheral neuropathy or is it usually permanent? I'm not sure what any of this really means!

I am not really feeling pain - its more of an annoyance. Tonight I put my feet up right after I ate for about an hour and it seemed to help lessen the feeling. What causes this to happen after eating? I would not say that I eat huge dinners, but its definately my largest meal. My feet don't usually burn during the day, only after dinner.
