Ringing in my ears! Why??

I woke up a week ago with both ears ringing. Once in awhile it gets louder and louder. I've never had ringing before. Why all of a sudden would I have this and why does it NOT go away?

Re: Ringing in my ears! Why??

Hi Kattie,

Is it a continuous ringing? I know for me, when I get ringing in my ears, it's usually from my sinuses clogging up my ears, and when I move a certain way, it rings. It's not uncommon to get it, but if it is continuous and never stops, I would go see an ENT and have it checked out.

Re: Ringing in my ears! Why??

Kattie-
Ringing or other "noises" in the ear can be caused by many things, including something as simple as taking too much aspirin. The medical term for this is tinnitus. Often there is a true organic or anatomical cause, and sometimes it occurs for no apparent reason.

If yours continues, I agree with CHANTEL...see an ENT doc.

In the meantime, here is some general info for you:

Re: Ringing in my ears! Why??

Thank you ZuZu and Chantel for your replies and the link. I was taking Cipro for a UTI when it started. The only thing is it's been doing it nonstop and I have been off the Cipro now since last Saturday. Maybe that medicine set it off or something. I'm going to the Dr tomorrow for my physical so I will for sure bring it up.

Kattie-
Just thought you'd like to know that I looked up side effects for Cipro and saw this:

Special Senses: Blurred vision, disturbed vision (change in color perception, overbrightness of lights), decreased visual acuity, diplopia, eye pain, tinnitus, hearing loss, bad taste.

Good luck at doctor's. Let us know what's what.
