Men are strange creatures. Imagine this:
A woman and a man know each other for about 4 yrs as best friends before they get together. They start their relationship at about the beginning of April.......March of the next yr it's the girls birthday and it's her 21st so it's special. She imagined a romantic meal, a night in a hotel room, with a box containing lingerie lying on the bed (and maybe a vibrator but that's just being greedy

) and she told him all this in a kinda subtle way so that he'd know what to get. Subtle means i.e. "Don't get me any presents, I don't want presents, get me lingerie and then we can both enjoy it".
Not too subtle right?
The day comes, and she waits. He brings her money from his parents, a balloon, a cake, and the big present...............a filofax. He later takes her to ikea, and to see a movie. she still waits for the "surprise here's your lingerie and a night of passionate sex" present. He kisses her goodbye and goes home later that evening.
Now take into account that it was the first bday we had together, and it was my 21st, and he was my boyfriend. Wasn't this the bday a friend would give, NOT a bf? I like filofaxes, I do, and I needed a diary but COME ON.
I wouldn't mind if he was a poor student (like me!) with no money, but he's on a fair wage as an accountant, and he spends 200 quid a time on Japenese...things and loads of boring stuff that I have no interest in.
I was just SO looking forward to a romantic day/evening/night together
Am i being selfish and unreasonable? was it a weird present for a bf to give? shouldn't it have been more romantic or am i being too picky? should i be happy that he put thought into it? I WOULD if I hadn't told him so many times that lingerie + a vibrator would be a perfect present.
