Types of Probiotic Supplements?

I'm considering taking a probiotic supplement for a couple of weeks, before starting mastic gum treatment (please see my previous thread for more info), to restore the "healthy" bacteria. I found two types that are locally available, both by the same company (Swiss Herbal). The first one is "Lactobactillus Acidophilus", and the second is "Anticholest Probiotic Culture Plus". I'm not sure what the difference is supposed to be; the former contains dairy products and the latter does not.

I'd like to know which one would be more beneficial to me, and just what the difference is between the two. This page also lists other digestive aids but it's all a bunch of medical jargon to me. How is a person supposed to know which products are best for them, when there's so many to choose from?
Thanks for any advice.

Re: Types of Probiotic Supplements?

Mr.M,
I have tried alot of different probiotic supplements and many are a waste of money for several reasons.
They are very sensitive to heat and most have to be store under refrigeration even during shipping. If not they don't get to you in the strength that they were package at.

Also alot of the active cultures are destroyed by stomach acids before they reach your intestines. Some are coated with a coating that does not dissolve until they reach the intestines. L.Reuteri is not affected by stomach acids.

The ones you mentioned only contain one active cultured bacteria. Some brands contain up to 14 or even 16 different pro-biotic cultures and do alot more. I read that there are hundred of different types of bacteria in your intestines---400+

PB-8 contains 8 cultures and is not suppose to be affected by heat. Primal Defense and L.Reuteri are also not suppose to be affected by heat or stomach acids.
All Primadophilus brands by Nature's Way and Pearls by Enzymatic Therapy are enteric coated so they don't dissolve until they rearch the intestines.

I have not used the ones you mentioned.
The ones I described can all be purcased online at good discounts or from local health food stores where I live.

I wish you success in finding a good probiotic supplement!!

mrmusicman--

I've been using PB-8 for over a year now, and I think it works well for me.
