Anyone been good for years and then kapow!

Hi everyone

I'm just wondering if any of you have been hypothyroid but under control and then suddenly it has gone out of whack?

I was diagnosed hypothyroid with Hashimotos Disease about 20 years ago, put on Thyroxine, and my blood tests have all come back normal since then. Until now...my blood tests are abnormal ( hypo) and the rheumy I'm seeing for a more recent autoimmune disorder ( arthritis) has upped my dose of Thyroxine from 0.15mg to 0.20.

I wouldn't have thought that increase would make me feel any different, but I am headachey, dizzy, sweaty, and generally out of sorts. Has anyone else experienced this? Did it settle down quickly? I don't want to take this increased dose any more, but since I'm probably feeling more joint pain because of the hypo situation, I'm not sure which way to turn!

Re: Anyone been good for years and then kapow!

When the increase at first appears to be too much, resulting in some hyper symptoms, it can be helpful to take only half of the increase for one or two weeks, thus gradually building up to the full increase.
A similar reaction happened to me with my last increase. I had taken the full increase for a week when the onset of a few hyper symptoms happened. I then split the increase for one week, and when I tried the full amount again, I had no further trouble.
