My 5 year old son suffers from allergies all year round, but they are worse(understatement) when the humidity rises above 30%(which is all the time-we live in southwest Missouri). Kindergarten just started and he has been in trouble 3 times so far. He has been on allergy and asthma meds since the age of 2(so far nothing has really helped), and the pediatrician keeps telling us to move him to a drier climate(easier said than done).
He is so much better when we are in the desert(Arizona, Nevada) so we are planning to move to Las Vegas within the next few years, but we need to find something that works now.
When his allergies kick in, he has every symptom of ADHD including the 'Dr. Jeckell & Mr. Hyde' syndrome. In the mornings he is really good(Dr. Jeckell), but by the afternoon(when the humidity rises), he becomes uncontrollable(Mr. Hyde). His teacher has noticed this change and wrote us a letter to take to the doctor tomorrow for his checkup.
We did the allergy tests and they came back normal. The 'quack' allergy doctor tried to tell me that the humidity doesn't affect allergies as severe as what I told him. I told him that he needs to spend a day with him when the humidity is high and see for himself. Will never take my child back to him. He tried to tell me that it sounded more like ADHD, and I told him it's not. I will not put my son on any ADHD meds.
Does anyone else have a child that suffers from the humidity like this? If so, have you found anything that helps?
