Ticker...help!

I need help, again. A few weeks ago, while on Flagyl, I got a real burning pain in chest. This is not uncommon on my Flagyl weeks, however, I usually get it the second day of Flagyl, and it goes away. I thought it was odd that I was having this burning sensation on my 4th day of Flagyl. The pain and burning got so bad, I went to doctor the next day. She did EKG, normal and sent me for upper GI, normal. I was on 14 days of Prilosec.

I was seeing an ND. She hated me on Prilosec and wanted me to stop when I felt better. I felt this attack was brought on by a new supplement I started, glucomannan, plus the fact it was my Flagyl week. The burning had not gone away completely, but was much better. I have not taken glucomannan again.

I noticed it coming back over the weekend. I was not taking any lyme meds at that time. I take a handful of supplements daily. I do not take large doses, just lots of vitamins. I've been doing this for years. I could taste the cinnamon capsule on Sat. and felt a burning sensation in chest. I think this is when my new bout started. I have stopped cinnamon for a while. On Sunday, the pain was so bad, I was taking acid reducer pills, and swigging Mylanta.

When I woke this morning, the pain was better. It doesn't bother me to eat. I took just a few vitamins and BP meds, and it feels like these pills and capsules are irritating my esophagus as I swollow, and the pain came back. Also, the weird thing, I feel like my breath is hot from the burning in my chest.

I decided to stop my lyme meds this week, as next week is my week off from them. This will be more like switching weeks. Plus, I will only take necessary pills to see if I can rid myself of this pain.

My ND has left the area. I found a new ND, highly recommended. I will see her next week for the first time. I feel like I am going crazy. This has all been going on for 19 months. I know I am not the only one, so don't want to whine. I have been in lyme treatment 1 year. I am not a bit better and now having these new issues. I don't know if this heartburn pain is caused by all the antibiotics. I have taken probiotics from day one. My previous ND had me take more probiotics and added glutamine powder, trying to avoid stomach issues. My pain is in the sternum area, sometimes rising a bit higher.

I guess I am writing you, just because I have to tell someone. I feel I cannot call my lyme practitioner, because I don't know what she could do for this. I went to my primary doctor last month when I had the last attack. She suggested the 14 day Prilosec. I guess I could try that again. I am hoping the new ND can help. I need 1 doctor that can address all my issues.

I will appreicate anyone's suggestions.

Re: Ticker...help!

Hi raleigh86. I have not been checking in as much as I would like to lately, and I still want to read your response on the thyroid board.

I am curious, when you take your meds do you drink a full glass of water with them? I ask because I know with Doxy you should take it with a full glass of water and not lay down for an hour after taking it or you can ulcerate your esophagus. This has happened to me before and it is excrutiating. I wonder if it could be any of the meds and/or supplements causing this if you are not drinking enough water or if you are laying down shortly after taking them. This is just a guess.

It sounds like it is more likely from the vitamins or supplements because even when you were off the Lyme meds, the burning happened right? I think it is a good idea to take just what you have to to see if the pain eases. Make sure you drink a lot of water with your pills. For your prescription meds, make sure you read the pharmacy sheet to see if there is any mention of this pain.

I hope it goes away soon, I know it hurts. Let me know if you determine what is causing it okay?
