Rapid Heart Rate

Hi - on occasion, like once a month, I awake in the middle of the night with a rapid heart beat. I take out my trusty old blood pressure monitor and find that my blood pressure elevates along with my heart rate which usually is in the vicinity of 110-112 bpm. It subsides after a little while and then I feel like myself again. Can anyone identify with this problem and shed some light? Thanks.

Re: Rapid Heart Rate

I'd get tested for sleep apnea, which is when your airway becomes constricted during sleep and your heart has to work a lot harder as blood oxygen gets lower. Your condition sounds a lot like it and taking oxygen while you sleep can help this condition a lot. Do you snore? If not, it's probably not sleep apnea- might just be an old fashioned nightmare.

Re: Rapid Heart Rate

I can help with ur problem because i myself was recently almost admitted because of the same problem u describe only i was at the doctors and awake...its call attack-a-cardia its the sudden onset of a rapid heart rate and elevation of BP...it is ok and normal for some people to get these symtoms...it is caused by the electrolights in ur body getting off beat...or over charged..nothing to worry about however it is wise to talk to ur doctor to see if there may be any other problems linked to this.. like high BP or kidney problem .. could even be from just high anxiety...never know talk to a doctor though and see what they have to say...Hope I Have Helped. good luck.

Re: Rapid Heart Rate

I get these episodes too and after all these years I can almost FEEL adrnaline and nor adrenaline getting squirted out of my adrenals. All I can do is wait it out.
A way I've found to use up these "fight or flight" agents is to get right to the gym and knock myself senseless on the elliptical trainer. When I'm done, I feel like a limp disrag but my BP and heartrate are back to normal.

There's always SOMETHING I can trace back too that spurred the whole episode on...usually some aggravation or fear. Neither can stand up long to the rigors of the ELLIPTICAL FROM HELL!
