rhubarb raw?

is it safe to eat the actually stem raw- well juice it to be precise?? i've read that the leaves are poisonous but are the stems also poisonous raw? i like to juice all manner of things to get raw food in my diet easily and thought that maybe ruhbarb could be next on my list. anyone know if its safe raw?

No I think you should be alright with raw rhubarb stems. the leaves are definitely poisonous, but I remember my mum telling me her grandma used to give her a raw rhubarb stem with sugar to dip it into, as a treat. and she turned out ok!

Rhubarb stems are safe and DELICIOUS. Just plain steamed rhubarb and sugar are a delight and who hasn't tasted a piece of wonderful strawberry rhubarb pie...to DIE for!
