Tampons and swimming

I'm going on a beach holiday next month, and I wasn't meant to have my period, but now it's delayed by two weeks, so I might have it! I'm going with friends and I'd really like to be able to swim and wear a biniki, but I've only worn tampons a couple of times, and they weren't THAT comfortable, so I never bothered. None of my friends wear tampons while swimming, so I guess I just want someone to reassure me that it's alright. How does it feel while actually swimming in the sea? It doesn't feel like it's going to fall out?? That's my main worry...and not being able to tell if it's going to leak/if I need to take it out. My period gets quite heavy when I'm in the sun...hmm. I really wish I didn't have my period then (and it's never dealyed by two weeks?!) !

Hi,
If you are very heavy the first couple of days then make sure you pop a more absorbant tampon in just before you go for a swim. You should be fine, I've been doing that for years. Just remember to make sure the string is well hidden too! Then change it after your swim asap. You will then get an idea how often you can go before it needs changing again. it shouldnt get water logged, not if its inserted correctly. Hope that helps.

i agree with the last poster, you shouldnt even know its there if its inserted properly. they take some getting used to but once you've got the hang of them they're a god send!!

Re: Tampons and swimming

So err I need to take it out immediately after I swim?! So I can't swim for a bit and sunbathe, then swim for a bit again...etc?

Re: Tampons and swimming

yeah, you can just treat it as you would normally, as its inside you. The only thing that might be a bit uncomfortable is that the string will get wet so you might want to chamge because of that, but if that doesnt bother you then you will be ok to change it as you would normally, at least every 4 hours. i know the other poster said to take it out asap but ive never done that when swimming and neither have my friends, i guess its a personal thing if you feel more comfortable doing so but i wouldnt say you need to, unless you need to change anyway
