is naproxin a blood thinner?

Hi all. I was told I had to get off of ibuprofen a week before surgery because it is a blood thinner. Any suggestions on what to take in its place? I'm on oxy and am trying to stretch out those doses, so I really need something for breakthrough. Tylonel or vicodin don't work nearly as well as the ibu. Is naproxin a blood thinner? I know it is an anti-inflamatory. Thanks

While naproxen is not considered a "blood thinner," it may thin your blood. It's in the same class as ibuprofen.

As far as what to take, you need to consult with your surgeon.

I would speak with your surgeon on acceptable drugs that can be used prior to your surgery. Some surgeons don't like any medications in your body the 1 week prior unless medically necessary. It would be a shame if on your day of surgery it was found that you consumed a medication that the surgeon would feel uncomfortable doing your surgery and have to delay it. Or worse yet you not revealing the use of the medication and then something unpredicable happening.

I know when my husband went in for surgery the only medication he was permitted to take was his diabetic medicine and then the day of surgery not even his diabetic medicine that morning.
