OMG--Discogram CANCELLED Oct. 12th

I arrived at the Hospital on schedule for the discogram. I am allergic to the dye that they use, so I had precautions to take---prednisone and benydryl the night before, and 1 hour prior to the proceedure. Made it down to the room and was getting prepped for the proceedure, when low and behold, I was taken to the ER department with a suspected heart attack! My heart rate was at 130 and the oxygen level was dropping. Disco was cancelled. All tests regarding heart attack were negative, so they thought I had a blood clot in my lungs--that test was negative as well. Finally sent home at the start of a horrible SNOW STORM. Have to notify Dr.s and see what to do do now. Thanks to all for the kind words and the expectations. After yesterday, I really don't think I will do this test, there has to something else they can do. Won't be able to call Dr.'s today, as we were hit really bad with snow and ice, and the city is shut down.

Re: OMG--Discogram CANCELLED Oct. 12th

I'm so sorry it worked out this way for you. I have no words of wisdom for you, except that the hospital was clearly looking out for your best interests. I hope you'll get in touch with your doctor and find out what other options you may have, or if you might still be able to have the discogram later. Don't let this scare you off from getting your pain dealt with. It's just a little set-back. Hang in there and don't give up.

Hunker down with some cocoa and let someone else shovel.

Take care,
Emily

Re: OMG--Discogram CANCELLED Oct. 12th

did you say you hoped it snowed so you didnt have to go for the discogram? Wow, you got your wish on that part. The other.. gee whiz. Was it just anxiety that sent your heart rate skyrocketing?

Glad those tests came back negative. If you are allergic to the dye... why are they doing a discogram anyway? Is is a mild allergy perhaps?

The discogram is truly the best test out there to diagnose the discs overall health.

I do hope you get some remedy soon and that you have power where you are. That is some snow storm you all got and you all are usually prepared for that stuff. We here in the south.. we are crippled when we get flurries! hahaha. Take care. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Re: OMG--Discogram CANCELLED Oct. 12th

Hello:
I really do not understand why they would consider giving you the dye, knowing that you are allergic, even with the precautions you were told to take, (prednisone and Benedryl). Considering what happened to you ( I don't think it was a coincidence), I would definitely reconsider having the test. I know that it is the most definitive and conclusive test there is, but I also think that it is just not for you. As for your cardiac symptoms, naturally that has to be thoroughly looked in to. I was wondering if they drew blood, to determine if your cardiac enzymes were elevated? Please take care of this situation, before you decide whether or not you will go ahead with the test. I am very happy to hear that you made it home, safe and sound, especially with the snow and ice. UGH You are upstate in Buffalo, I am in Brooklyn and right now, I am happy about that! Good luck and be well. Please consider all of your options before deciding what to do regarding the test with the dye.
Diedre.
