Faith in God

Just wanted to start a thread about your faith (if you have one) and dealing with this disease. I'm not trying to convert anybody, just think it's always interesting to hear about each others faith and what suffering of this nature means in our lives, and in the next.

Just to be open I am a Catholic.

Thanks
scott

Re: Faith in God

Scott--I pray daily for the health of my family and ask God to please keep them from getting this ugly disease or any other for that matter. On the day of my shot which my husband administers, we both say a little prayer that the medicine will do what it is supposed to do. And that is to stop the progression of this disease. So far, it has really helped me. I've been on the Avonex for four years.
By the way, I, too am Catholic.

Re: Faith in God

well this is probably going to sound weird to people but i do not pray for my health. i only ask for forgiveness because that is all that really matters to me at this point..

i have no idea why i have MS and i dont really think much about it or pray about it.. its just a bump on my road of life.. it didnt really change my faith at all because god never said life was going to be easy... and poop happens.. i have just learned to step over the poop when it happens and not let it get stuck to my boot and stink up the rest of my walk through life ..

Re: Faith in God

Punk,

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? I think your philosophy on this one is a good one.

I'm not sure which religion you prescribe to if any, but one thing I've been told and have read many times whether it be saints or other religious people, is that life is where our purification process begins, where we learn that in the end everything "must" fall from us (material things) and that in the end, only God matters... and our salvation. Nothing else.

I don't mean to depress anybody who has a family and all that, but I just can't help myself from thinking about God on a daily basis, and of that sort of thing.

Re: Faith in God

hi. i'm undx'd at this point. saw my neuro Fri and results from 3 MRI's of my brain and spine and a lumbar puncture were normal other than a few slightly bulging discs. he told me it doesn't mean i don't have MS and that he's 95% sure that I do - so we are in the wait and see game - the next attack or flare and I am to go see him. i've been dealing with this for about 15 years or more.

the only thing that has gotten me thru this is my faith in God. He has blessed me with this and thru this. my illness and pains and all that goes with it keeps me humble, but He's able to work thru me to reach others who are suffering as well.

What i've learned is that it's not religion that matters, but the relationship (with Christ) that does.

i hold on to God's promises and His Truth and some scriptures that help me through are:

Romans 8:18 "For I consider the sufferings of this present time, not worthy to be compared to the glory which will be revealed in me."

"For the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and He hears the cries of those crushed in spirit."

Without Him, there's no telling where I'd be today.

God bless you,
michelle
