stress

can anyone tell me if stress puts your blood pressure up

Yes. Stress causes the adrenal glands to produce adrenaline, which causes the BP to go up.

my boy has been getting bullied at the scholl where i work and i have been very upset about it and the school does not seem to be trying to do anything about it i have been trying to get them to sort it out but am not getting anywhere with it so after words with the head yesterday i did not sleep much i had to go and get my blood pressure done today first time it was 156 over 76 so she done it again again and it was 165 over 80 so she made an appointment for the doctor the thing is i dont want put on medication if it is caused by this stress and was wondering is stress could have caused it

Hi Sharon,

Yes it can!! I have HBP anyway, but I am able to keep it at or below 140/90. However, I once had my BP steadily rise a few points a day over a 2 week period while awaiting a stressful event. It peaked at 180/111 the night of the event, and dropped over the next few days back to normal. I have also monitored it before something stressful, and after. At each occasion my BP went way up. Alot of it seems to be how we each respond to stress. I shudder to think what it has been over the years when I wasn't monitoring it...or while sitting in traffic....LOL!

thank you i think this may have what it is with me as i dont usualy have hbp i have been under a lot of stress and have been feeling very angry about the situation with the school i did not feel they were doing anything to help so i felt as if they wre not taking thing seriously so i was getting very uptight about it all thank you for replying
