I've been told my Selenium levels are too low. How is this significant? What can this cause? I have SLE but have been hurting more, more tired, more weak...could this be why?
You have to kinda watch Selenium as its need but in small amounts only as it can be toxic if abused. Its mainly a Glutathione and anti oxidant producer especially with Cancer(s). About 100 mcg a day is the RDA and i wouldn't go over that. The highest food source is Brazil Nuts as they super high in this mineral and no other food comes close so add these Brazil Nuts daily and your levels should be fine.

What is SLE?? If low on selenium then at a high risk for certain Cancers.
Second thing you mentioned was your energy levels...well selenium works with Iodine to produce Thyroxine in the Thyroid so if too low then your Thyroid might be down regulated and hence your low energy levels. Ask your Doctor about your Thyroid if he/she hasn't mentioned that to you....

Hmmm....interesting. I'll look into that. SLE is lupus...the systemic kind.
