Good MRI results but still in pain

Thought I would start a new thread. Saw the Neurosurgeon today. He said the MRI looks good. He said that does not dismiss my symptons. I liked that. Most doctors would say everything looks good and you are not in pain. At least he recognizes I'm in pain. He gave me more Oxycodone and said if I need more to just call his assistant. He said I had this pain down the leg, foot and toes before surgery so it may just take time for it to go away. He said the nerve is probably inflamed. He said I've done therapy, TENS and take Lyrica and Skelaxin so I'm doing everything right. I've been walking everyday. I even take Calcium with D everyday. So basically it will just take time. He said to call him in 6 weeks if still in pain. He said if anything happens before then I should call him. He said I need to take some anti-inflammatories but I can't because I had Gastric Bypass surgery 5 years ago and I'm not suppose to take Asprin, Advil and stuff like that. Can only take Tylenol and that is useless. I'm going to make an appt with my primary. There may be something I can take that won't be too rough on the stomach. I've even lost 6 pounds. Trying to get the 30 off I gained since surgery.

Re: Good MRI results but still in pain

Congratulations the weight loss of 6 lbs!!!

It sounds like your surgeon is being completely honest with you that it may take time to heal, and he has not completely ruled out that there is another problem that did not show on the MRI.

Your visit sounds like it went pretty well overall. Please know that you are in my prayers and thoughts as you continue to heal.

Hessie, you are on a right path! Lost 6 pounds - this is big progress in our sitation, when we can't really excercise they way we used to.

Definatelly you can get pain even if MRI shows that everything is OK. I am not sure if MRI can show every nerve involved. So you may have that. But i like the fact that your Doctor did not dismissed your pain, this helps a lot, is in it?
I wish you all the best, feel better - you are been through enough already.

Re: Good MRI results but still in pain

Hessie ,
Well atleast your MRI look's good . I hate that leg /feet pain , I had other pain's that went away in time , I believe it took like a year tho. My back leg's and feet still kill me when I walk to long , but if I kick back and do nothing everyday , I'm fine with the pain and a little Hydro now and then. Let's hope that nerve pain goes away. Like Moldova said you can't see nerve damage on the MRI you will only know in time if it sticks around.

Keep up the good work and don't over do it

Hessie
Good Job on the weight loss. I think I got your 6 pounds. I really like Ice Cream since my back problem guess it is my comfort food.

I remember when I was in search of my problem all my MRI's showed I should have pain on the left side and all my pain was on the right side. I had many Dr's blow me off and I felt they thought I was faking it.

Well I did have alot of issues and my current Dr. (whom I believe is a saint) listened to me and understood my pain and was willing to work with me. It was such a relief.

The above statement and all the heck I went thru to get where I am at now is what keeps me going cuz I am better than before. I am not where I would like to be but I will keep working at it.

Hope the new meds hope. Good luck and remember I will be thinking of you.
