I'm scared I have scabies!! GULP!

I’m scared I may have scabies! EW! I wrote about an itchy finger a while ago, and it’s not any better. It’s not as itchy anymore, but it’s still so pink and dry and flaky now…I can’t see any pimple things, but there definitely were in the first week or so…*fearful* I am scared. I don’t want to have to bathe in scabies medication overnight! It’s spread a bit to the web/space between the pink finger and the next one, and also my wrist…it MAY now be on my other outer wrist as well, much to my anxiety.

I’m looking at photos online and they all look 100 times worse than mine…maybe I don’t have it…but maybe I do, because another photo I saw of someone’s leg DOES look like my things…it’s been here for about a month now and the itching isn’t worsening at all…they say it’s meant to be worse and worse as time goes on, and worse at night, but it’s barely noticeable at night…

But IS it scabies? They say it’s highly contagious…but my partner hasn’t got any symptoms at all…how can this be?

Also, can it spread to your face or eyes if you touch them enough?? *scared*

Stevie - why don't you go to the dermatologist and put your fears at rest??? Sometimes too much research is not a good thing.

Re: I'm scared I have scabies!! GULP!

Hi there I was the same, convinced I had scabies and treated myself for them but I was actually diagnosed with pompholyx. It is a form of dermatitis which causes little itchy blister like bumps on the fingers/hands/palms and even feet. I also had bumps on my wrist and back of my hand. They eventually peel and flake. I got dermavate cream and it defo takes the itching and dries them up. I am still trying to work out the cause as it can be caused by many things, an allergy, weather (more common in spring), an idopathic reaction to a fungal infection, stress and anxiety which I think is the cause of mine or an allergy reaction. Every time I put my watch and bracelet back on the bumps appear on my fingers and palms. Strange and very annoying since my boyfriend bought me a very expensive watch for XMAS!!!!!

Cool! Thank you! That sounds more like my rash, although mine's almost gone now for some reason. I didn't even do anything with it, medicate etc. Weirdness! Must've been a seasonal thing I guess.

Re: I'm scared I have scabies!! GULP!

It sounds like you had contact dermatitis not scabies. After an attack of contact dermatitis, the skin will become pink and dry but stop itching as it sluffs off. The outer layer of your skin has been damaged, just like a sunburn, only it starts with itchiness, so it needs to peel off. Were you using any new products on your hands? Were you having contact with something new -- a plant maybe? Something that you are no longer in contact with?
