Blue-Purple Legs and Feet

My ds has had this issue since she was born. Peds keep telling us it's just the way her legs are positioned which may just be cutting off some circulation. It is when she stands sometimes or sits up. She's soon to be 6 months. Any of you have this?

I'll ask again when we have her 6 month appt in two weeks. I just want reassurance.

Re: Blue-Purple Legs and Feet

My 9 month old granddaughter stayed with us last week and I noticed the samething especially when I was holding her in an upright postion. It was better when she was sitting, but her feet got purple again when she was in her jumperoo. I asked my daughter about it, and she said she has noticed the purple feet from time to time but didn't think anything of it. Of course, being the worry wort I am, I went on the internet and found that the condition is pretty common in infants. Their blood vessels are small and skin pretty thin so it makes their arms, legs or feet look purple due to the position they are in. My granddaughter's toenails even got purple. If you find out anymore info at your doctors appointment, I would appreicate it if you would come back and post it. There is always something to worry about with these little ones! Ann

Re: Blue-Purple Legs and Feet

My not quite 2 week old son had an episode a few days ago where I noticed that all of a sudden his feet and legs were blueish purple. I immediately started rubbing them (while panicking) and they turned back to normal color. We sat in the ER for 5 hours, had a chest x ray and an EKG done on him and left with no real explanation for why it happened. He is going to see a cardiologist because I have a daughter that had a congential heart defect. They also found something questionable on his EKG in the hospital after birth, but discharged him. My daughter is ok and it healed itself but I am going crazy over what just happened to my son. His legs were almost navy it was so dark! They told me that circulation problems are common in newborns and that it's probably just the nervous system acting crazy. I don't feel comfortable with that explanation/diagnosis at all so I'm calling the Pedi Cardiologist tomorrow!!!!! Apparently this is more common than I thought so I hope it's nothing.

Re: Blue-Purple Legs and Feet

My dd's feet and legs have been purplish since she was born and she is 13 months old now. I bring it up to her ped at every visit, and at every visit I'm told it's normal and she'll eventually outgrow it. It doesn't seem to bother her at all, she's not cold, her respitory tests are all 99-100%, she's just... purple!
