Lost 20 lbs but still have spare tire

I'm a 5'9" man in his early 30's. I recently lost 20 lbs through reducing calories and increased cardio, currently weighing about 155 lbs. I feel comfortable at this weight and frankly, don't think I -can- lose anymore as I really have to work VERY hard and be VERY disciplined to maintain that weight otherwise I will gain 2-3 pounds.

Anyhow, my question is that through all of this I still have a bit of a spare tire and want to know what steps I should take to get rid of it. I know crunches/sit-ups won't do it but just don't know that I can lose another 5-10 lbs.

Thanks!

One thing I would advice is, to give it time. Don't expect overnight results. Just keep on doing cardio, and doing ab exercises. Keep doing what you're doing, and you'll see changes, slowly but surely.

Good luck

Cardio. The only thing to get rid of fat is cardio. The first place you gain weight is the last place you loose weight. Working the abs will tighten the muscles but it does not get rid of fat. Combining the 2 will help to strengthen the abs and look more tone.

Keep watching your diet and doing cardio. Add weight training so gain muscle. Muscle helps to burn fat.

Congratulations on your weight loss! You should be proud of yourself for your achievements! The spare tire? Well, according to things I have read (magazines, self-help books, etc.) you really have to do serious abdominal exercises to firm up your abs! It is so hard to get motivated though (hence my new thread on here I just posted).! I don't know what the answer is, but maybe some fast walking to continue nurning fat along with crunches may help! I just wanted to commend you on the progress you have made and don't give up! It's hard for everyone and it's good that the support here is 24/7!

Vegasdood,

Don't pooh-pooh the effects of situps and crunches. Getting dsome muscularity into that spare tire will make it look better. You can lose a pound of fat for evey pound of muscle and though wout weight will be constant, your waistline can be smaller and the extra muscles acusaally will burn more calories.

Congrats on the weight loss...I think 155 sounds like a good weight for you.

(I'm getting impressed with that neverending HIP HOP ABS commercial that blares 24/7. Sort of like crunches to music.
Now if I can get the discs for free somehow!
