Question Cost of medications.

Hi, I have myotonic dystrophy type 2. I have been prescribed Questran for cholesterol. Welchol was also suggested. I went for the Questran because it was more affordable. Welchol would cost over 200 per month. Although the Questran ran almost 100. I was also prescribed Provigil for fatigue, if I filled that it would cost something like 270 per month. My insurance covers a miximum of 2000 per year for meds. I cannot afford that, I am struggling to pay my bills as it is. I am almost 64 and don't know how much longer i can continue working. Any suggestions.

Re: Cost of medications.

Hi,
You'll have to do some research over the internet, but a lot of drug manufacturers have programs that will give you your prescriptions at a reduced cost. I don't want to break any rules for posting, but I think it's okay to say check it out with your doctor or pharmacist - they may know of the programs. Good luck.

Re: Cost of medications.

Hello,

Jeanie3 mentioned talking to your doctor or pharmacist about discount programs, which is great, my Dr is always on the lookout for discount programs for me. In addition to that, you should ask your Dr for samples. One of my ADs is pretty expensive (even with the discount), so every time I go, he or his nurse empties out their "stash" of samples and give them to me. This means that I have free medicine about every third month. It does help a lot.

Best of luck!
