Question is this neglecting my mom??

I've been caring for my mom since March 2008 after a stroke. Her memory is not great as well as other limitations, so I work fulltime at my job and caring for mom. She doesn't get out much and her days are spent watching t.v. and napping. What can I do to help her. She has lost interest in everything!!

Re: is this neglecting my mom??

You can look in your town for any senior centers or day care centers for adults they plan activities and trips that she may participate in.

You also need to set up a therapy session so she gains back as much of her mobility and such.

Depression from stroke is from that part of the brain affected by the stroke. Until new paths are created -- talk with a doctor about the depression she is suffering from.

Also, have her get involved in some sort of volunteer activity. If she can do things like make sandwiches, dish food out, deliver food with Meals on Wheels

Or spend time reading to children in the library and such.

You may need to do the volunteerism in the beginning but then she'll probably do it when you aren't. Call your local church and see what's available as well.
