Well as usual, my bad luck curse strikes again, although I am to blame.
I lost my job a year ago, and gave up the insurance. It was crappy, and would cost me 300 a month to continue coverage. In Nov 08, I was fortunate to get hired at a state job which offered excellent insurance.
Well stupid me did not fill out the forms before the 30 day deadline. In my defense, I wasn't aware of the deadline, and never worked government before. I'm used to corporate jobs where you could sign up at any time. To my dismay, I learned that I would have to wait until the next enrollment period in Oct. Even worse, coverage would not start until Jan 2010. A full year with no insurance.
So I went the private route and applied 3 times. After a long wait, I was deemed uninsurable! The problem is they look at my medical records, and I appear to be a health wreck. I've seen the doc for IBS, one time for gout, and I'm on meds for high BP. However, I don't have any major diseases, no diabetes.
Now I am in a real jam. I suddenly developed nerve problems in my arm which is could lead to permanent chronic pain and loss of my hand if it isnt treated. I'm afraid to wait 5 more months on this thing yet I can't afford a specialist and surgery out of pocket.
I don't know what to do. I'm going to call some local places on Saturday and see if they could get me on some type of policy. But what if these places deem my nerve problem as pre-existing? How do people get around that problem?
