storke in young people

hello, my name is emma and my husband paul had a stroke last week, he is 26, it was out of the blue and a shock to everyone, we went to bed as normal on the sunday night and then we got up for me to go to work on the monday and his stroke happened at 6:45am, i was upstairs getting ready to go to work, and he had taking our little boy down stairs to get him a bottle, he said he sat on the couch and started to feel drunk he then started shouting at me to coe and help him, i ran downstairs and he had collasped on to the floor, i took my son upstairs to calm him down, he was frightened and paul had climbed up the stairs and was wondering round, his was talking and walking round like he was drunk, i phoned the ambulance and thought he was over reacting he walked from our house to the ambulance, we got to the hospital at 7:45 and he just got worse and worse as the day progressed, he had a CT scan which didnt show anything, which made them believe he hadnt had a stroke, so at around 2pm he was transfered to a different hospital to a nurology ward and was rushed down for another CT scan and had dye put into his brain and this showed he had a clot at the back of his brain, and needed surgery urgently, by this point he could hardly talk and move, i was told if he didnt have this suurgery he would be dead n hour but they only gave him a 50-50 chance of surviving, he got through the surgery and is now recovering, which we have been slow but he should make a full recovery, he is still on the nurology ward while they try and find out why this happened.

im sorry this got so long, thank you for reading, i have so many questions running round my head.

I am so sorry, but also happy they found the clot in time, his recovery sounds promising, you are both in my prayers!

wow I'm sorry to hear about your husbands stroke, but I'm happy to hear they think he will make a full recovery. I guess because you were there and were able to get him help quickly.....that really makes a difference.
Good luck to you both and I pray that he makes a full recovery. He's young so he has that on his side......

Re: storke in young people

Hello Emmajayne, and welcome to the HealthBoards.

I am so sorry to hear of your husbands stroke. We are here to support you and share some of our experiences with you. We are glad you are here.

I know it has only been three days, and he has had surgery...but how is he doing? Is he awake, is he speaking?

I also want to know how you are doing, with the baby, and your husband in the hospital? Do you have any support for yourself right now? I encourage you to take care of yourself, try to take time to eat, sleep and stay well hydrated.

I am a survivor of 4 strokes, at 43 years old. I am now 48, and after 5 years, I have regained all of my function (except my kidneys, another story). One of the big parts in stroke recovery is sleep. Do not be concerned if Paul sleeps a lot, while recovering. The brain needs to shut down while it repairs itself. He has his young age on his side as well.

I am sure you will get some more technical information from our other posters here on the board. We are here for you and your husband...
