Fever coming after a stroke?

Patient had stroke few days ago. No physical effects, having speech problems only. Can speak good and clear, but is mixed up, uses wrong or unreal words, and is very hard to communicate, but some improving. Had a small fever the day after stroke, and bigger fever (almost 101) on second day. Hospital seems not worried, but giving medicine for fever (tylenal).

Did anyone have experience with fever coming the day or two after stroke? Why does this happen and what does it mean?

I am sorry you are going through this. Is the patient a friend, or loved one? Is he, or she still in the hospital?

I had similar effects following my strokes, as far as the mixed up words, and nonsense words. It can be very frustrating to mix up letters and words, and end up with gibberish. I can tell you that my speech has gotten much better after I started typing, here on the boards.

As far as the fever goes, I do not know the origin. I would leave it up to the hospital to monitor it, and treat it. Have you asked them about the fever? Stroke is a brain attack, and can cause all kinds of secondary issues.

my hubby also had fever on and off after the stroke, blood test urine test all show negative. so the doctor was telling me it could be the "central control" problem, meaning the brain is not able to regulate proper temperature...

We are very lucky to have this board, where we can come together and share our experiences with stroke...it is so difficult, but there is always hope!
