Pregnant in California -no health insurance

My daugther in-law is pregnant with no health insurance. She was previously covered by insurance provided by the company my son works for. Due to the slow down in the economy his company does not have enough work right now for him to maintain coverage.

They have applied for Medi-cal, but are told that they do not qualify (he would have to be absent from the home). I am very concerned. She is about 5 months pregnant and has not seen a doctor. Does anybody know of any programs she may be able to get some help from?

She can go to any area free clinic for pre-natal care. She can contact an ob/gyn and ask them for how to get free pre-natal care (for a referral to an area clinic) and/or her area social service agency.

Granted the care won't be the same as a private ob/gyn but it will be care.
