Cobra

Hi everyone...I just wanted to let you know something I didn't know when I went for my hearing regarding COBRA.

When I was getting set up for my hearing my attorney let me know that if you are approved for SSDI while you are still on COBRA that by law they have to extend 11 mos. I never knew this until going through the set up for my hearing...however with my insurance co I had to be shown disabled within 60 days of the start of COBRA I don't know if that is the norm or just a clause with my insurance co. So far my payments have not gone up but was told they can increase but it sure does help until I get medicare...as most of my docs aren't public aid and there are no rheumatologists that take public aid. COBRA actually approved me until 2013 but I won't need it by then because medicare will kick in next August.

Hope this is helpful to someone

Debbie

This is very helpful information Debbie. Just as a point of clarification...You first said 11 months, but then said approved through 2013....That's four more years. Is that a typo, or is COBRA actually approved for that long?
