Apicoectomy

Hi all...
I had an apico a week and 3 days ago...it was the most painful procedure i ever had in my life. Afte the procedure it was so painfull that i could only be confortable after taking so many painkillers and being asleep for about 3 days.
Then the swelling subsided and the pain started to go too. I was rather happy for this...2 days after i finished the course of antibiotics ( one week after the procedure) a throbbing aching pain comenced. It is not swelling it just hurts with every heart beat! I'm back on the antibiotics for about 2 days now and painkillers on demand...the pain went down a bit but it is still there.
I suppose this means that the apico was a faillure and I'm back to the dentist next tuesday.
What should I do next...if you suggest another apico when things settle down i will never do this again!
it is a front tooth and now i have to conform myself with a bridge...or implant.
Really not sure what to do
Any suggestion?

Many thanx

Re: Apicoectomy

IMPLANT! Best money I ever spent (front tooth here, too). Implants are the standard of care now, and why file down two perfectly healthy teeth to restore one? Bridges do fail - ALWAYS - and will have to be replaced periodically. A well placed and well maintained implant is forever. Lifetime expense is much cheaper for an implant. Aesthetically, much better, too.

I thought implants just lasted for 10 years?...besides they are so expensive. and painfull too.

Hi,
I had four extractions and then implants placed immediately across my front four top teeth.
Neither the extraction, or the implant procedure, was painful at all. Only part that hurt a little bit was the novocain shot in the very beginning and that for only a short time.

My new crowns look great and I'm very happy that I got implants.

Whether you decide on a bridge or an implant, both will require "maintanence".
I go for a professional cleaning every three months and take very good care of my teeth.

Don't be afraid of the pain of an implant. I can honestly say my pain was minimal and I was eating normally with a metal partial within a week.

Best to you on your decision.

Re: Apicoectomy

Thanks for sharing guys.
It's been more than 3 weeks now and the pain is getting madning at times!
so full of painkillers that i feel sick to the bone (literally), the pressure inside the site is painful and enervating. Finished 2 courses of antibiotcs but no improvement.
My dentist said that i could be making a reaction to the collagen sponge, form the x ray it looks like it is clean and healing. When he started preparing the nife to take it out i just said no, i wanted a second opinion. So i am getting a referal for an endodontist to have a check but dont know if i can resist till i have an appointment! Help every time i let him do anything it just gets worse since the failled root canal!
