from time to time I have pain under my ribs on the right side of my body. it tends to hurt alot and takes some time to go away

I'm not sure why this is posted to the aging forum but:

See a doctor so he can press on your abdomen and ask you more questions. That's part of a regular examination. No one can tell you what it is other than list possible causes. I don't understand why you ask here instead of just going to your doctor.

That's very typical of gallbladder pain, for example. It could also be pain emanating from your stomach as a symptom of an ulcer. The colon also runs up near the rib cage, and it can be a symptom of painful bloating if you notice that abdomen is expanded during these episodes.

The less likely causes are an enlarged liver pressing on the diaphragm, a possible complication form a previously broken rib, etc.

Out of what I've listed, the most likely cause is an ulcer or gallbladder stone.

I had the same thing and thought it was a gallbladder stone. It wasn't.
It was kidney stones. Two of them. I passed one while peeing and the other one is still there. I feel it once in a while.

They wanted to go in and pull it out. I said no way, I'll live with it.

I have elevated liver enzymes and high cholesterol and I get it too. I've had my liver checked by the doctor and it's not painful to touch. The discomfort comes from within. You should have it checked tho.
