Is it a urologist?

Well I wont make a long story, but basically I am a 34 year old male who is married. I have a stressful job, I also suffer from anxiety (which I have taken meds for in the past but am currently not on any).

My sex drive is terrible compared to what it used to be but its been not good for like 5 years. I have had blood drawn to check for testosterone levels from my regular doctor and everything checks out good. I get almost no morning erections anymore, which makes me real nervous too.

I cant tell if my lack of hard erections is from my anxiety, stress, or something physical (or a combination). Do I just call a urologist? I dont want to even embarrass myself over the phone if that's what I am not suppose to be calling them for. I have a PPO insurance plan which means I think I can see a specialist such as this on my own... Can someone tell me if thats who to call? Thanks in advance

Re: Is it a urologist?

Yes, the Urologist is the specialty for a man who is having erectile related problems as well as other problems too. Depending on where you live and the availibility of healthcare providers in your demographic area, you may need a referal or consult request to come from your general medical provider if there is a shortage of Urologist in your area. It can take a few weeks to get an appointment regardless of if you are self referred or not, so try to make an appointment ASAP just in case you have to wait.
Don't be embarrassed, many men have problems that are beyound their control, it would only be embarrasing and shamefull to not get help.

Re: Is it a urologist?

okay so the urologist seems to think I am crazy. he ran some blood tests on me, and other than my cholestrol is pretty high, everything else checks out okay. he also did a test to where i urinate after drinking a couple bottles of water, to test pressure I guess. that checked out okay too. he then looked at me wondering why I went to see him. i told him I wanted to find out if anything was wrong internally, which i hope they were able to do with just that blood test. he basically told me i need to relax...

frustrating, and it's kind of odd to say I was hoping something might be wrong, but nothing was other than my brain...

anyone else in their 30's or early 40's had a urologist tell them everything checks out but you still have some erection issues??

He shouldn't be that puzzled. He certainly should have made you feel comfortable, but didn't.
I would see another urologist, and not that one again.
Erection issues are not that rare, at any age. He should be able to understand why an erection might be precious to a man.
High cholesterol can easily cause erectile problems. If there is plaque in the blood vessels, the blood is not going to flow as well, as if there is no plaque buildup. This is not arcane knowledge, it is common knowledge.
I have to wonder how good this guy is as a doctor.
