Hepatic Adenoma

Yesterday i was told after getting gallbladder ultrasound, that i had a mass on my upper left lobe of liver measuring 1.8 cm. CT scans revealed probable benign adenoma or focal nodular hyperplasia. I have pain in my right upper side that is constant. My family practioner told me it was nothing to worry about and i shouldnt be concerned. I AM worried and I continue to hurt. Have problems with nausea and vomiting at times. Doctor wants to me to have EGD to rule out ulcer and hydascan to rule out probs with gallbladder. i just am worried... am not comfortable with any kind of tumor in my body. I had complete hysterectomy in sept 2008 and have been on estrogen and progesterone therapy for 1 year.
any thoughts or suggestions?

Re: Hepatic Adenoma

There is a great deal of evidence to show that hepatic adenomas grow in the presence of oestrogen, I suggest you ask for referral to a liver specialist who will probably recommend cessation of oestrogen if it is an adenoma. There is at least one person on these boards who had several hepatic adenoma and after stopping the contraceptive pill the adenomas disappeared There are others- like me who have a tumor on the liver and the diagnosis is not definitive although my liver specialist believes its an FNH - I have yearly scans and it hasn't grown- its 5cm in size. I don't take any hormones for HRT and haven't taken the contraceptive pill for 17 years.
I also have gastric for which I have to take daily medication( PPI )and although the doctors say the two are not related I suspect they are. On my last scan I was told I have gallstones as well. Get a referral and hopefully your mind can be put at ease
Mc
