I had lower jaw surgery to correct an overbite 2 months ago. I have a titanium plate with 4 screws on each side of the mandible. Three days ago I noticed a "ball" the same color as my gum tissue over the area where the incision was made. It has increased in size over three days. From what I can find online, it fits the description of a fibroma.
Does anyone know if fibromas are common after oral incisions? The incisions were closed with stitches after surgery but I developed an infection which caused the surgeon to have to stitch in drains and do daily irrigation one week post-surgery. I'm assuming this would be considered trauma which could lead to the fibroma, but I'm concerned it could be a sign of something more serious. I will call my oral surgeon's office on Monday but just wanted to throw this out here and see if anyone has experienced anything similar or might have some input.
I should add, the mass itself isn't painful but the bone underneath is extremely tender.
Thanks!
