Lamictal (lamotrigine) and Rash

My daughter is 13 and was diagnosed with epilepsy when she was 8. She had grand mal seizures for 6 months, put on Carbamazapene which controlled them. She was taken off the meds after being seizure free for a year and then started having absence seizures. After much trial and error, her dr. finally found a drug that worked - lamotrigene. She had been on it for a year with some success, but recently started having the absense seizures again. The Neuro increased her dose by 25mg and within 24 hours, she broke out in a bad rash. Benedryl did nothing to help, so she was put on prednisone. We put her back on the old dosage and the rash got better, but isn't completely gone.
She had blood work done to confirm the rash is an allergic reaction to something, and if it doesn't clear up within 2 weeks,we'll have to change her medication. It took us a year to find a med that actaully worked and now we are going to be back at square one, it's so frustrating!
Has anyone else experience rash with this drug, after taking it for a long period of time?

Did the doctor's figure out the rash was directly related to the Lamotrigine? My doctor told me if I suffered a rash after taking the Lamotrigine I was to discontinue immediately.

Canada: I never had a rash from Lamictal but I had one from Dilantin. I agree she shouldn't take it no matter what if she's had allergic reactions. My thoughts to you is to have her seen by an endocrinologist and have her hormones checked. Catamenial Epilepsy is known to start in puberty or menopause. It's hormone induced and is caused by Estrogen Dominance - too much estrogen in the brain. She might benefit from some hormone treatments instead of seizure meds.
