Could I have low test?

Hi. I'm 38 and these are my symptoms.

Anxiety
panic
boderline high bp
brain cloudiness
irritability
Low self confidence
always tired
difficulty concentrating or following a conversation
facial flushing
been working out with heavy weight for a year with barely any muscle gain
occasionally dizzy/ light headed feeling
apathy. Not much joy in life

I realize that all of these might not be related in a common cause. I take lexapro 15mg for anxiety and panic. It's helped quite a bit for that. I've had much of these symptoms for nearly 20 years! Especially the tiredness and run down feeling. Could this be a testosterone issue? I have a lot of body hair, starting to lose hair on my head. I don't get it?

Re: Could I have low test?

Yes, but there could be other factors such as vitamin deficiencies. The only way to tell is with a lab test from your doctor. Testosterone levels are highest in the morning so you will want to get your blood drawn within a few hours of waking up. Ask your doctor for vitamin D testing as well since that can cause mood/anxiety problems. You should also get your thyroid/FSH/LH levels tested.

You should have your testosterone levels checked out then you will know if its low or not. I always wondered if i had Low T, back in 2004 but never got tested, in 2008 i finally got tested and i found it was low, Now i just started taking HCG. I also had the symptoms you mentioned. Do you have insurance? Blood tests can be expensive

Good Luck

Re: Could I have low test?

yes - they are VERY expensive. I have insurance so I only paid $10 but the full labs for all of that stuff was around $950.

Re: Could I have low test?

Thanks guys. Yes, I have insurance and I had an appt with doc last wed (oct 20). Apparently they have to send the blood to virginia for testosterone tests. Should have results pretty soon, I think. We also ran some thyroid tests. Im starting to think that I might have hypothyroid. Looking at some bloodwork I had done in may 2009 I saw that my tsh was 1.5 (.5-5) but my free t4 was .8 (.8-1.8) which people in the thyroid forum seem to think is extremely low and would probably cause a lot of the symptoms I'm having. It will be interesting to see what these new labs will show. I specifically asked for total testosterone, free testosterone, and estradiol e2. I don't know what else he ran.
